Words like cloud.com, shop.de or invest.at are universally understood, easy to spell, and impossible to replicate. Unlike a branded domain created for a specific company, a premium generic domain can serve virtually any business in its category.

Premium domains are typically short, free of hyphens and numbers, dictionary words or clear compound words in widely spoken languages. Many were registered in the early days of the internet and have never changed hands — or have traded privately for significant sums.

Scarcity is the fundamental driver. There is only one .com, one .at, one .de for any given word. Once a premium domain is acquired, it is permanently unavailable to anyone else. This finite supply combined with growing global demand for credible online presence means premium domains consistently appreciate in value over time.

Beyond scarcity, premium domains convey instant authority. A business operating from a short, generic domain is perceived as an established category leader. They also carry SEO benefits — generic keyword domains receive type-in traffic from users who simply type the category into their browser, and they tend to attract natural backlinks.

Stripe — for purchases up to €2,000, you are redirected to a secure Stripe Checkout page where you can pay by credit card, debit card, SEPA, iDEAL, Klarna and other supported methods. Payment is instant. We initiate the domain transfer once your payment is confirmed.

Efty Pay — for purchases between €2,000 and €15,000, the transaction is handled through Efty Pay, a trusted domain marketplace payment platform. Efty will contact you directly to set up and complete the transaction securely.

Escrow.com — for purchases above €15,000, funds are held in escrow by Escrow.com, an independent licensed escrow service, until the domain transfer is completed to your satisfaction. See below for more on how escrow works.

For Efty Pay and Escrow.com transactions, payment options are determined by those platforms and may include bank wire transfer, credit card and other methods.

Escrow.com is an independent, licensed online escrow service regulated by the California Department of Business Oversight. It acts as a neutral third party that holds the buyer's funds securely until all conditions of the transaction are met — in this case, the successful transfer of the domain to the buyer's registrar account.

The process works as follows: the buyer deposits funds with Escrow.com, we initiate the domain transfer, and once the buyer confirms receipt of the domain, Escrow.com releases the funds to us. Neither party can access the funds improperly during the transaction.

Leasing allows you to use a premium domain and pay for it in monthly instalments over an agreed term — typically 12 to 48 months — rather than paying the full purchase price upfront. A down payment is due at the start of the lease, followed by fixed monthly payments.

Domain leases on EasyDomain.at are handled through Efty Pay, a specialised domain transaction platform. Once you submit your lease application, Efty Pay will contact you to set up the instalment plan and handle billing throughout the lease period.

During the lease, you have full use of the domain. Title to the domain transfers to you upon completion of all payments.

Payment terms and consequences of missed payments are governed by the lease agreement arranged through Efty Pay. We recommend reviewing Efty Pay's terms carefully before entering a lease. In general, failure to complete the agreed payments may result in termination of the lease and loss of use of the domain.

Once payment is confirmed, we unlock the domain at our registrar and provide you with the transfer authorisation code (also called an EPP code or auth code). You initiate the transfer from your chosen registrar — the domain is then transferred to your account.

The process is straightforward: you will need an account at any accredited domain registrar of your choice (such as GoDaddy, Namecheap, IONOS, or your preferred provider). Your registrar's support team can assist you through the transfer steps if needed.

For most common TLDs — including .at and .de — the transfer is completed almost instantly once the receiving registrar processes the authorisation code. You submit the auth code at your chosen registrar, they verify it with the registry, and the domain appears in your account typically within minutes.

For more exotic or less common TLDs, some registries impose additional verification steps or manual review processes that can extend the timeline by a day or more. This is uncommon for mainstream European TLDs. We will let you know if any delays are expected for a specific domain.

You are free to transfer the domain to any ICANN-accredited registrar of your choice. We have no affiliation with or preference for any specific registrar. If you do not yet have a registrar account, popular options include GoDaddy, Namecheap, Porkbun, INWX, and many others. For Austrian .at domains, registrars accredited by nic.at are required.

All prices shown on EasyDomain.at are exclusive of VAT. The applicable VAT rate is calculated during checkout based on your country and business status:

Private individuals in Austria: Austrian VAT of 20% applies.

Private individuals in other EU countries: Austrian VAT of 20% applies, as domain sales are treated as electronically supplied services under EU rules.

Businesses in Austria: Austrian VAT of 20% applies.

Businesses in other EU countries with a valid VAT ID: The reverse charge mechanism applies — 0% VAT is charged. You account for VAT in your own country. Your VAT ID is verified against the EU VIES database during checkout.

Buyers outside the EU: 0% VAT applies — domain sales to non-EU buyers are exempt from Austrian VAT.

If you are purchasing as a business, enter your company name in the Company field on the purchase form. An additional VAT ID field will appear for EU-based companies. Enter your VAT ID in the standard format including the country prefix (e.g. ATU12345678 for Austria, DE123456789 for Germany). Your VAT ID is validated in real time against the EU VIES system.
